30 June / GRANDE SCÈNE - Place du 1er mai
Sunday 30 June
This is the story of a “gang of mates” from high school who all have a penchant for not only hip-hop, but also cinema, rock music, urban poetry and more generally, a certain idea of pop culture. Since starting out in 2014, this shape-shifting Rennes collective is not shy of racking up the references. Their name is linked to the Guy Van Sant film “Elephant”, which was based on the horrific Columbine killings in 1999, while the title of their second album Enfants Terribles is a nod to Jean Cocteau. But beyond these “references”, Columbine display something rare as ambassadors of (cloud) rap which shuns clichés and draws from a disillusioned reality, which is superbly shown on “Adieu Bientôt”, their introspective latest record. Columbine celebrate the perfect harmony between poetic charm and brazenness, and they’re just as entrancing live as they are on record.
