Two guys and a girl, but only one choice: to dream up warm music devoted body and soul to groove. And so Da Break was born, a collection of three old friends from the Lyon scene in the shape of bassist, producer and walking encyclopaedia Bruno Horvart (aka Patchworks), singer with the nickname Hawa, and drummer Rémy Kaprielan. Now a quintet, the group draws on its lush love for black American music from vintage soul to hip-hop (old-school west-coast style), whilst also indulging in a few detours via R&B and funk. On their two albums (the second, ‘Let It Shine’, was released just before the first lockdown) and onstage, this Lyon gang that does things differently offers up songs inhabited by Hawa’s vocals – which combine power and gentleness with stunning ease – and carried along by a science of flexible rhythm. Da Break invites you to join the dance and will set your toes irresistibly tapping!
