EDDY DE PRETTO

Friday 28 June

FRANCE / RAP

At last year’s Europavox festival, you really had to elbow your way through to catch a glimpse of Eddy De Pretto in the setting sun, playing on the “little stage” tucked in the shade of the Coopé venue. In the space of a just few months, he’s become a musical sensation. And this 26-year-old from the outskirts of Paris has achieved the amazing feat of earning both public and critical success at an almost meteoric speed. Not only that, he’s also managed to thumb a nose at any attempt to pigeonhole him. He unashamedly sings about his everyday life using lyrics like an uppercut, flirting with French hip-hop and chanson (from Nougaro to Daho), which helped transform his debut album “Cure” into a platinum-selling record. With hit singles “Kid”, “Normal” and “Fête De Trop” under his belt, being up on stage now feels like a second home to him. In a nutshell: victory declared.
