LORD ESPERANZA

Sunday 30 June / / GRANDE SCÈNE

FRANCE / HIP HOP

Discipline, literature, rap, eclecticism, independence, duality, friendship(s): these are just a few words which sum up Lord Esperanza’s distinctive world. With a stage name partly pinched from Michel Tournier’s wonderful novel Friday, Or The Other Island (Speranza is the name given by the main character to the island he washes up on), it sure says a lot about the importance this pumped-up 22-year-old Parisian gives to his lyrics, which he always delivers with surgical precision and a sharp flow. He can often be found alongside beatmaker Majeur Mineur, and after a multitude of projects (mixtapes, EP, videos, PALA$$ duo with his mate Nelick), he’s finally released his debut album Drapeau Blanc on his own record label. It’s a frank, introspective piece free of superfluous details, setting him out as another rising star on the new French rap scene.
