This is a story about having roots and feeling displaced, about travels and legends. It’s the urge to conjugate the past and the present. These three musicians from the Auvergne (Tia Gouttebel, Gilles Chabenat and Marc Glomeau) came up with the idea of introducing a hurdy-gurdy (a traditional instrument from their region) and mixing it with iconic Mississippi blues. With their instrument in tow, they headed across the Atlantic out of the blue, to record some tracks at the hovel-ish home where musical history was made and standards of the genre were born. Plus, they were accompanied by the descendants of a few legends – such as RL Burnside’s grandson – to boot. It’s no mean feat! And the result? A timeless rambling sound that astoundingly hits the spot real deep.
