VENDREDI SUR MER

Saturday 29 June / / GRANDE SCÈNE

SWITZERLAND / POP

“I write songs, I don’t sing them,” announced Charline Mignot, aka Vendredi Sur Mer, on the rather heady track Les Filles Désir. And it’s true. With barely 23 years to her name, this young Swiss musician who’s been living in Paris since 2016, practices (almost) spoken word to a backdrop of electro-pop with hints of yé-yé dreamt up by wunderkid Lewis of Man. She’s the main party concerned and prefers to speak of “delicate rap” or “songs as poems”. They’re certainly rather dreamlike, with gusty melodies and lyrics that aren’t for the faint hearted, lost somewhere between old-fashioned romanticism and suggestive sensuality. As she’s getting ready to drop her debut album on the label Profil De Face, she dreams of one day collaborating with Nekfeu. Vendredi Sur Mer is certainly the only destination to be this summer.
